Founded in 1991, Kyochon is dubbed the largest fried chicken brand in all of South Korea with more than 50 outlets outside of the country. In South Korea, Seoul and Busan are where all the branches are located with Hongdae, Dongdaemun, and Sinchon being the busiest branches.
Follow me for a brief review of Kyochon Chicken Hongdae with a short walk roughly five minutes from Hongdae Subway Station. Let’s dive right in.
The Dining Space
Steeped in a modern and inviting decor, the dining house at Kyochon Chicken Hongdae had me in love at first sight, thanks to its spacious environment.
During busy hours, the house is full of chatter and cheers while crispy fried chickens are on the tables and craft beers are fully filled in iced cold glasses. If you stop by around 9:00 in the evening, the first floor is always packed, leaving you a few lucky unoccupied seats on the second floor to steal.
How To Order
Kyochon accepts delivery and takeaway if you’re not keen on dining on the site. The menu is broken down into four languages: English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
Start by choosing your favorite flavor on the sauce. They have spicy, garlic soy sauce, and honey sauce served with a whole chicken, legs, wings, or leg quarter.
Alternatively, you can also have a half-and-half so you don’t have to sacrifice your desired flavor if you dine with a big group.
The Food
Fried chicken is not complete without a sip of that ice-cold beer. And is there anything better than washing down that heat with your favorite ale flavor? At Kyochon, the chicken is usually ready in about 20 minutes so the beers will come first.
Here’s to give you a sneak peek at what I ordered.
Quarter Leg With Red Pepper Sauce And Garlic Soy Sauce
This one comes in a mix of two flavors. The tender chicken is fully immersed in the savory sauce. There’s a certain level of tanginess and heat but it’s not overwhelming.
Spicy Chicken Drumsticks
The tender thighs, once again, never disappoint. Its take on the red pepper flavor pairs beautifully with the juiciness of the drumsticks to bring out a balance and mouthwatering flavor. It’s better to have this portion shared with your group otherwise your lips will suffer at the end of the day after all those non-stop devouring.
Fried Chicken Legs With Garlic Sauce
As long as your taste bud can tolerate the tanginess of garlic, you can’t miss out on this one. It’s definitely not as spicy as the spicy red pepper sauce but there’s a certain depth to it telling you that the sauce is marinated to perfection.
I can’t recommend Kyochon Chicken Hongdae enough. Not only is the chicken marinated well and fried to perfection but the staff is excellent in providing a welcoming environment to enjoy.
