Shinjuku accommodations have always been the most recommended place to stay in Tokyo by Piao Er. This is not only a hub for various transportation such as subway, JR, and buses, but also the meeting point for local tours like Kawaguchiko and Ninja Village Day Tour. For those who are sensitive to the latest trends and want to buy the latest Tokyo fashion items, Shinjuku is the place to stay, as it is the benchmark for the latest trends in Asia.
And this time, because on the last day I planned to take the Limousine Bus to Narita Airport (the most cost-effective and fastest way from Shinjuku to Narita Airport), I chose to stay at the “Apartment Hotel Shinjuku” near the “Shinjuku South Exit” where the Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal is located, so that I wouldn’t have to carry my luggage up and down on the last day.

A typical restaurant in an antique and miscellaneous goods store
Follow the navigation from the bustling commercial street to the end of the alley, and you will see this red brick retro building, which is the Apartment Hotel Shinjuku! Formerly a Japanese traditional inn and short-term apartment, Apartment Hotel Shinjuku was rebuilt in the 1970s and renovated in 2010, but still retains its antique red tile exterior.
Walking into the hotel lobby was the most stunning moment for Piaor. Previously, Piaor had introduced the antique-style hotel in the Nimman area of Chiang Mai, Thailand, which was full of ancient flavor. She praised the unique design of Thai hotels. Unexpectedly, there is also a hotel in Tokyo that preserves the style of the old era, and it is located in Shinjuku!
The antique decorations here are all furniture from the Taisho to Showa periods collected by the owner from various parts of Japan. They have been restored by experts in Kanagawa and are available for sale. There is also a selection shop on the basement floor!
Apartment Hotel Shinjuku Double Room Type
Apartment Hotel Shinjuku uses code locks for entry into the lobby and rooms. It is important to note that the front desk service is only available until 21:00, and there is actually no one there before 9:00 in the morning. Although if you check-in outside of these hours, you can inform the hotel in advance and they will automatically send you your room password and other check-in information on the day of your stay. However, because the hotel does not have an elevator, it is recommended that female guests come during the front desk service hours if they need help carrying their luggage upstairs.
Our room was arranged on the third floor this time. When we entered the room, we were actually quite surprised. We didn’t expect the room design to also have a rustic and cozy style. The furniture and design of the 31 rooms in Apartment Hotel Shinjuku are all different, and there is no common point among them. Moreover, the room appearance will change periodically, so the photos on the booking website can only be used as a reference.

Although I stayed in a business hotel for more than two weeks, the standardized room type was numbing. Moving to an apartment-style hotel located between a stylish youth hostel and a standard business hotel gave me a feeling of relief. However, the biggest problem with Apartment Hotel Shinjuku is that the rooms are really small. Whether it’s a single or double room, they are only 11 square meters, smaller than the smallest room I stayed in at JR Ueno Iriya Exit Super Hotel (12 square meters). Only one 29-inch suitcase can be opened, and it is very difficult to walk around after opening it. This may be the biggest drawback of Apartment Hotel Shinjuku.
The size of the bed is suitable, although it’s not as comfortable as a business hotel bed, it doesn’t affect the sleep of the insomniac me, because it’s not so bad that it’s unacceptable. The quilt is okay, the heating is strong enough, and the key point is that because it’s located in a residential area, it’s “quiet” compared to other chain hotels located around Shinjuku Station on the main road!
Apartment Hotel Shinjuku used to be a short-term apartment, so each room is equipped with a simple kitchen for boiling water and cooking, with dishes provided. In fact, the design of the bathroom facilities, kitchen, and antique-style furniture are all from the same designer!
Bathroom Equipment
You may not feel it in the photos of the bathroom equipment, but this space is even smaller than the already small business hotels! Sometimes even one person can bump into things here and there. If you are a bit heavier, I don’t recommend staying here because you may not even fit in the bathtub.
As for the spare items, they are just like those in hotels, but there is no room service here. However, new towels of different sizes will be replaced daily and hung outside the door. Old towels and garbage should be taken to the floor entrance and disposed of by oneself.
Here is my experience of staying at the Tokyo Shinjuku apartment-style hotel! The reason why I love it so much is that it is really the closest hotel to Shinjuku Station that I have ever stayed in. It is very convenient whether you are traveling to and from Narita or Haneda Airport, going to West Shinjuku for a day trip, going to East Shinjuku for food and cosmetics shopping, or shopping for clothes. Moreover, during the peak season after the cherry blossom season (during the Easter holiday in Europe), the room rate can still be maintained at around 2,000 TWD, which is the advantage of this hotel. The only biggest problem is that the room is really small for two people!!!
