One of the classic foods in Osaka is, of course, takoyaki! This time we went to “Tako Hachi Dotonbori Main Store“, which has a good reputation in the fiercely competitive takoyaki area of Dotonbori. You always have to wait for 20 minutes to buy it, but if you only want to eat takoyaki, you can queue up on the first floor. If you want to sit down and enjoy Osaka-yaki, kushikatsu, Japanese fried noodles, and tonpeiyaki at the same time, you need to go to the teppanyaki area on the second or third floor.

Zauo Dotonbori Main Store is located on the busiest street in Dotonbori. It’s just a five-minute walk from Namba Station Exit 14 on the subway. You’ll see a long line of people waiting outside. It’s located diagonally across from the famous ramen shops Shitenno Ramen and Jin Long Ramen. Next to it is the must-try food Mitsu no Osaka-yaki, located in the covered shopping street of Sen-nichimae.

The Queueing Process
This time, we joined the queue of the first-floor vendors. After about 20 minutes, we arrived at the ordering area where we could watch the chef prepare the food and smell the aroma.
The shopkeepers will use Japanese-accented Chinese for simple conversations to cater to tourists, which is quite cute.
The indoor area on the first floor is for octopus balls, and there are not many seats available.
“Tako Hachi’s Takoyaki” Authentic Kansai-style batter Takoyaki
Tako Hachi’s takoyaki is a classic style of Osaka takoyaki, which is a very authentic batter snack. The octopus itself is also very fresh, but there is nothing particularly special about it.
However, the ingredients he used in his recipe show that his food content is slightly different, which makes the soy sauce taste unique even though it is still sour.
