The hike between Kleine Scheidegg towards Wengen Station down to Lauterbrunnen is an initially asphalted road before opening out to a wide forest road.
To get there, you need to arrive at the Kleine Scheidegg train station on the convergence of Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen train routes.
This train station is also known as the downstream terminus of the Jungfrau railway, which climbs steeply through tunnels in the Eiger and Mönch mountains to the Jungfraujoch.
In this hiker’s guide, I’m gonna give you a glimpse into this beautiful paved way that meanders around the breezy foot of the dramatic, cloud-capped mountain of the Jungfrau area.

Hiking from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen
The hike from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen is fairly easy with plenty of beautiful scenes to take in, especially the view over the far-flung Jungfrau and the village of Wengen.
The hike begins right next to the Kleine Scheidegg train station and is considered easy for most fitness levels, even seniors.
The starting point is perched over 2000 meters and nestled between the peaks of Eiger and Lauberhorn. It takes you through the most whimsical sceneries that seem as if they only exist in a comic book.
Here comes the whistling train snaking through the grassy knoll like a majestic red snake sprawling comfortably in the sun. Not until ten minutes later will you come over to a beautiful, tranquil lake. It’s just one of many gorgeous natural lakes sleeping peacefully under the foot of the bareback mountains, reflecting their dramatic figures on the calm, crystal-clear surface.
往Wengen方向是主要放牧區域,牛都直接趴在路上。
As your feet are pounding on the graveled hike, the lazy cows outstretch their tired bodies on the meadow, munching on the freshest grass after waking up from the wildest dream. Peppered along the hills, chalets and cabins offer homemade milk and snacks alike for by-passing visitors.
As I completed this section of the hike, it was mostly 3 in the afternoon. To catch up with the latter sections of Wengen and Lauterbrunnen on the same day, I hopped on a bus at the nearest station of Wengernalp heading for Wengen.
This second part of the loop circling Wengen takes you about 40 minutes to complete but the landscape will never disappoint your effort.
Stroll around the Dreamy Wengen
When the bus slowly sneaks into Wengen, the wild scenery gradually disappears, making space for the tranquil, cute hippie vibe to take over.
Wengen is a small town on the east side of the Lauderbenner Valley. You won’t find that many stores like what you expect to see in a town like Grindelwald. However, such serenity defines the charm of this quaint little town. It’s like a short getaway to cleanse my mind and unplug from the social buzz.
Pop Into the Fairy-Like Town of Lauterbrunnen
Leaving Wengen behind, I took the next bus downhill to Lauterbrunnen at an altitude of 797 meters. They record about 72 waterfalls of all shapes and sizes nestled within this compact, whimsical area.
Lauterbrunnen is scrambled with locals and visitors alike, a big contrast to the quiet and sparsely populated town of Wengen we left behind. Lauterbrunnen also plays host to a plethora of accommodations and dining holes even though the number of mountaineering supplies and souvenir shops is limited.
